Who Should Attend?

Parents, caregivers, special needs teachers, psychologists, nurses, speech therapists, occupational therapists, behavioral therapists, marriage and family therapists, physical therapists, mental health counselors and clinical social workers

Objectives:

  • Discuss how to measure and assess social and emotional vulnerabilities in ASD.
  • Discuss effective strategies for teaching social skills in ASD.
  • Discuss effective strategies for teaching emotional and behavioral regulation in ASD.
  • Discuss and describe adaptive behavior profiles in ASD
  • Discuss and differentiate adaptive behavior from cognitive and academic development.
  • Discuss and recognize the importance of functional skill application to daily life contexts in ASD.
  • Discuss and learn about the major priorities for treatment and educational programming for adolescents with autism spectrum disorder;
  • Discuss and learn about recent research illustrating these challenges, particularly in the social domain, and implications of this research for practice;
  • Discuss and learn about the developmental origins of these social learning challenges in adolescents, which can be traced back to early childhood.

Speakers:

Ami Klin, PhD Photo

Ami Klin, PhD, a professor and chief, Division of Autism & Related Disorders, Department of Pediatrics, Emory University School of Medicine, and director, Marcus Autism Center, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. He is a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar at Emory University. Dr. Klin is an internationally known psychologist and researcher. He is the former director of the Yale Child Study Center, Autism Program at Yale University School of Medicine.

Saulnier, an assistant professor, Division of Autism and Related Disorders, Department of Pediatrics Emory University School of Medicine, and clinical director of research, Marcus Autism Center, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Dr. Saulnier, is a former associate research scientist, Yale Child Study Center, Yale University School of Medicine.

Wolfson Children's Hospital, a part of Baptist Health in Jacksonville, is the regional pediatric referral hospital serving children throughout Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia and beyond. Because children have special health care needs, everything about our hospital is designed just for them and their loved ones.

UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA
The University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville is a full service academic setting serving the population of northeast Florida. Our Pediatric Department is the largest and fastest growing department within the university system. The Pediatric Department is comprised of 108 faculty with 12 specialties represented and 36 pediatric residents. Part of our mission is focused on research and technology placing the Department of Pediatrics at the forefront of clinical care.

NEMOURS CHILDREN'S CLINIC

The Nemours Children’s Clinic in Jacksonville has 16 pediatric divisions providing world-class care to children with complex health problems and needs. Serving children from Northeast Florida and southeast Georgia, the facility sits on the banks of the St. Johns River and is affiliated with Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
